DIY felted garland

December 15, 2014

So this idea wasn’t completely original, I snagged the idea from anthropologie fleted bow garland. Actually, if you wanted to buy the ‘real’ version, it’s not terribly expensive, but I just adapted it to fit a more Christmas theme. This was a super easy DIY project I actually completed while studying for finals. Some might say it’s proCRAFTinating. hehe.

Supplies needed:

  • 1/4 yard each of 4 different colored felts (red, white, dark green, lighter green)
  • String
  • Scissors
  • Kitten assistant

Ok that last one isn’t completely accurate and necessary, but look at how adorable she is.
Cut all of your felt into strips about 1 inch to 3/4inch long and the width of your felt (1/4 yard). Free handing is key, don’t spend too much time on this part. Even my Type-A, OCD personality was ok with every strip not being completely perfect. Once you have all of your pieces cut up, start tying them to your string. For the first and last piece, I tied the string around the piece of felt to anchor it down, so the felt won’t slip off the ends.

I told you it was easy! I originally wanted to layer it with my CHEER sequin banner over my mirror, but there was way too much going on, so instead I just laid it over our coffee table and instantly fell in love.

More of this years decorations here.
